In an effort to build awareness about TSEA, Ellissia Hill (TSSG ’08), our student intern, is setting up information sessions with local businesses and organizations. She has an ambitious goal of ten information sessions before she graduates from high school in June 2009. If you would be interested in hosting an information session at your business or organization, please contact Ellissia by email, or phone the office.
In September, Ellissia Hill (TSSG ’08) began her internship with the Tall Ship Education Academy. Ellissia is a student at MetWest High School in Oakland; as a part of her curriculum, she participates in an internship two days a week. We are lucky to have this enthusiastic young woman working with us this year!
Ellissia is working on three projects for TSEA: she is raising awareness about TSEA by organizing information sessions at local businesses, she is researching organizations that will provide scholarship opportunities for students enrolling in TSSG and she will help with the outreach for the Girls Summer at Sea 2009.
Ellissia’s is looking for people to host information sessions. The information session will last about 45 minutes, and include Ellissia giving an overview of the TSEA programs, sharing her own experience in the Tall Ship Semester for Girls and showing a 20 minute film created for our 10 anniversary this year. Information sessions can take place at your workplace with colleagues, your home with friends and family, or a club/church you belong to. If you are interested in hosting an information session at your business, please contact Ellissia by email or at the office phone number.

After her experience on the Women’s Challenge in the spring of 2007, Mimi
Lundgren returned to Chicago determined to get more women from the mid-west out
to the Bay. Her efforts have helped us to create a new partnership with the
Chicago Yacht Club
and Commodore Vartan. By working with Chicago public schools, the CYC will
sponsor two high school girls to come join the crew of Women’s Challenge
8 this May. The girls will be chosen based on their entries in an essay
contest, and their entire expenses to San Francisco and towards the program
will be covered by the CYC.
