Program Eligibility Questions

 Will you be in 10th, 11th or 12th grade during the semester you are applying to join TSSG?
The semester that you participate in the program you must be in 10th, 11th or 12th grade. Preference is given to Juniors and Seniors but most TSSG classes have taken one or two sophomores.

 Do you live in the San Francisco Bay Area?
During the first six weeks and the final six weeks of the semester you will be participating in land-based training in San Francisco. For that reason, you need to reside in San Francisco during the program. If you have a friend or relative in the area that you could live with, you are still eligible for the program.

 Have you discussed the program with your parents? Do they support your decision to apply to the program?
This program is a significant commitment for you AND your family. You are choosing an powerful yet alternative route in your educational path. This path costs money and if you choose to apply for financial aid, your determination is based on your family’s income. For these reasons and many others, it is important that your parents understand what the program is and their responsibility in your participation. They need to support your application. Talk to them!

 Have you checked with your academic advisor at your high school?
Check in with your advisor to make sure that you understand your academic requirments to graduate and what classes you might need to take outside of the Tall Ship Semester for Girls to stay on track for graduation.
